Fake Wen vs Real Wen

Now for the one thing that everyone is really looking forward to - the showdown between the fake Wen and the real Wen. I did a comparison between the two today and wanted to show what I found out.

But first let's have a background check between the two:

Opponent 1:

From chazdean.com

$32.00

16 oz bottle

Opponent 2:

From amazon.com (which later led up to be from wenhaircare.com)

 90 day supply pack - $85.80

16 oz bottle

Real Wen and fake Wen

Now from the picture, you can actually see that it looks like the fake Wen (right) and the real Wen (left) look rather different. They both claim to be 16 oz and I don't think they lied. The one main distinctive feature is that the bottles are different from each other. That means STRIKE 1 for the fake Wen. Not a good start.

Real Wen and fake Wen (back)
Here is the back of both the two Wen conditioners. The labels are different sizes, and the pumps are different from each other as well. You can't actually see the differences between the pumps since they are inside the bottle, but they are different. The ingredients are not the same either. The fake seems to use a cheaper type of conditioner or a whole different formula. (STRIKE 2 )

Real Wen conditioner (left) and fake Wen conditioner (right)
What surprised me the most between the two was that they smelled almost exactly the same. The only difference was that the real Wen conditioner had a lighter mint scent and was easy to rub into my hair. Not to mention that the real Wen conditioner had a somewhat lighter colour than the fake. (STRIKE 3)

Real Wen conditioner (left) and fake Wen conditioner (right) smudged together.
The fake Wen conditioner takes a while to rub in together and is "heavy" while the real Wen conditioner is easy to rub against your hands.

Real Wen Shower Comb (top) Fake Wen Shower Comb (bottom)

Isn't odd how the logo on both of the shower combs are not the same size or colour? The real logo is a greyish colour and smaller while the fake logo is much bigger and a gold colour. The fake Wen shower comb is also much bigger in size compared to the real shower comb.

The teeth of the real Wen shower comb.
Look how the bottom of the comb's teeth are round. This makes the shower comb more gentle to your scalp and hair along with a better experience when combining with the Wen cleansing conditioners. (I do admit though I tested this comb on another hair product and it still worked the same way or even better)

The teeth of the fake Wen shower comb.

Notice how the bottom of the comb's teeth are sharp and edgy. Ouch ouch ouch! This comb is rough against your scalp and hair and super hard to bend. And I mean REALLY hard. The real comb is also hard but not as much as this comb is.

Conclusion

We have come to the end of the showdown. Unfortunately, the fake Wen from wenhaircare.com has lost. Too many strikes along the way that I had lost count! There were way too many differences as well and the quality isn't the best.

I hope this post has helped anyone doing research on Wen. Feel free to leave comments and don't forget to check out my other Wen posts. I may have some more in the future.

Real Wen Products by Chaz Dean

It came! It FINALLY came! Receiving the Wen products that I ordered from chazdean.com was literally the highlight of my day. It was awesome! Throughout the day I was even glancing outside a few times checking to see if the UPS truck came. And now I have it!

Here are the products I got:
  • Sweet Almond Mint Replenishing Treatment Mist 2 oz
  • Sweet Almond Mint Cleansing Conditioner 16 oz
  • WEN Shower Comb
  • Summer Mango Coconut 16 oz
It even came with this Wen booklet that has instructions for all the products (not including the limited edition conditioners) If you ask me, the booklet was kind of creepy. It was filled with people posing naked or topless - if you visit chazdean.com, you'll see what I mean. They had great hair though!

As for using Wen in the shower, it was amasing! I used the Summer Mango Coconut Cleansing Conditioner and it made my hair feel so clean. I have straight, long, black, and Asian hair so it might not work as well for other certain hair types. I think this conditioner is universal though. I remember that when I used the fake Wen conditioner from wenhaircare, I did not feel clean at all. It just felt like "nothing". No sensational feeling, nothing.

My hair is still drying off right now since I like to air dry so I cannot say how my hair has changed or benefited yet. Though for now, I'm loving the real Wen already.

-Stay tuned for a real Wen and fake Wen comparison post. Hopefully that will end the whole Wen post cycle.

Fake Wen Products by Chaz Dean

So we all have our collection of shampoos and conditioners, right? Well many people like me somehow stumbled upon Chaz Dean's infomercial about his product called Wen. I can say, I was pretty excited about this. There aren't many "good" products out there and his seemed pretty legitimate. However, I am always hesitating before I ever order something from TV. I ordered Wen from Amazon instead. Here's the direct link I used:

If you clicked the link, you can see that I got the 90 day supply of sweet almond mint. I was super happy to get this until I later found out that it was a fake. Yes, a fake! Apparently, the first four ingredients of the fake Wen were water, glycerin, cetyl alcohol, and cetearyl alcohol. The first four ingredients of the real Wen are water, aloe vera gel, glycerin, & chamomile extract.

Don't forget though that the fake Wen products tend to look much different from the real Wen products. The fake Wen conditioners usually have labels that wrap around the whole bottle, wrong ingredients, a non-foamy conditioner, and different pumps. When in doubt, just compare products with each other using pictures, information, and anything else.

Using the Wen Conditioner

I'm still working on the other products but I did try the sweet almond mint conditioner. Now when I used the Wen conditioner, it was not foamy at all. It smelled like toothpaste mint. There is even a rumour about the fakes being made from a mixture of toothpaste and conditioner. Can you believe it? The toothpaste must be the main key to the minty scent. Mint is also an easy and common scent to make. Using the conditioner, I noticed some of my hair falling out. Maybe it was just me but it seemed pretty mysterious.

I'll be receiving my real Wen products from the official site hopefully by Tuesday. I'll defiantly make a post about it. Until then, see you all later! Don't forget to continue reading for extras.

Full set of the fake Wen products.
A whole bunch of papers included (not important)

Now after reading the papers and examining everything, I think that I may have been signed up for some sort of auto shipping. There were a few hints here and there about receiving more packages. Ugh!

Overall:  The fake Wen products I received were awful. They did absolutely nothing and did not make me feel clean in the shower at all. Also beware of hair loss when using these fake products and auto shipping.

Sites to buy the real Wen from:

Sites to avoid buying Wen from:

ANY other site claiming to sell Wen! Even avoid ebay or amazon unless you know for sure that it is a 100% real Wen product. Most of the sites lead up to be coming from wenhaircare.com

Note: Sorry to stick the label on the pictures. There are just too many thieves out there and I figured that the best way to avoid any type of editing or copying is to just stamp a label right in the middle of the picture. I also always keep the original pictures too before I put the labels on them.
